Saudi Arabia chooses to permit Israeli flights to use its airspace

In advance of US President Joe Biden's first visit to the kingdom, Saudi Arabia has agreed to allow all air carriers, including those from Israel, access to the airspace over the country.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) made the announcement, noting that it has opened its airspace to any carriers that comply with its overflight standards.

According to the statement, the choice was made in accordance with international agreements that forbid discrimination between civil aeroplanes.

According to a GACA statement, the most recent action would "supplement measures aimed at cementing the kingdom's position as a global hub connecting three continents and to promote international aviation connectivity."

By opening Saudi airspace, Israel will be able to travel more cheaply and quickly to other nations.

"I'll be the first American president to fly from Israel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, today. As we commemorate this significant occasion, Saudi Arabia's choice may encourage Israel to further integrate within the region, particularly with Saudi Arabia "In a statement, Biden stated.

Recall that the Palestine conflict is the reason Saudi Arabia refuses to recognise Israel. Despite having no formal connections, it nonetheless permitted planes between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to utilise its airspace in 2020.
